A message to caregivers
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I appreciate the fact that you took the extra time that I know you don’t have.
If you are a caregiver, my heart goes out to you. I know how difficult caregiving is. In the midst of this corona virus challenge, I imagine that time for yourself is even more restricted than during a regular caregiving day.
I’ve had the experience of knowing how every new or different task demands even more energy and time. During the 2008 financial crisis, I couldn’t keep my mind focused on the right thing at the right time. It was no comfort to me to realize that my husband was blissfully unaware of the difficult times we were living through.
My recently published book, “Caregiver Confidential: Stories of Living with My Husband’s Alzheimer’s Disease,” is my attempt to talk openly about my caregiving experiences. I knew I couldn’t write a book to address all caregiving situations—just wives caring for their husbands or partners with Alzheimer’s disease.
I’ve arranged the stories in a semi-chronological order. My hope is that readers will choose a chapter to read when a situation is useful in meeting whatever the current challenge is. While my stories do not constitute “how to” advice, I encourage you to check out the Blog page. It will cover a host of subjects, and some suggestions for finding your way through the caregiving journey.
